In jungen Jahren wurde Matthias Schriefl vom berühmten Saxofonisten Charlie Mariano eingeladen, ihn auf einer Tour mit dem Karnataka College of Percussion zu vertreten. Begeistert von der südindischen Musik, reist er bis heute immer wieder nach Bangalore, um dort indische Musik zu studieren.

In Bangalore entwickelte sich daraus vor Jahren eine tiefe Freundschaft, sowie Amithias, eine Band mit zwei Bandleadern: Amith Nadig und Matthias Schriefl. Die Musiker dieser Band kommen aus Südindien und dem Allgäu – eine tolle Mischung für echte Weltmusik!

Amith Nadig ist ein Flöten-Virtuose, der in der klassischen indischen Musik mit den besten Musikern des Subkontinents spielt. Er setzt sich nicht allein intensiv mit der eigenen reichhaltigen Kultur auseinander, sondern spielt bei Amithias beispielsweise auch Samba, Blues und Mambo-Stücke und jodelt auf indische Art. Alle Musiker loten ständig die Zusammenhänge von Jazzharmonien und indischen Ragas, sowie die Gemeinsamkeiten von Grooves aus aller Welt aus. So entsteht ein faszinierendes Zusammenspiel der komplexen Rhythmen Südindiens mit europäischer Harmonik. Es zeigen sich hier wahre Freundschaften, weit über die Musik hinaus. Eine virtuose Begegnung, die so nur in den himmlischen Gefilden der grenzenlosen, puren Freude an Musik stattfinden kann.

In a kaleidoscopic swirl, Schriefl's alphorn meets the bright-sounding Indian bamboo flute of Amith Nadig, who forms the Indian section with a predominantly percussive trio. In Sarah Buechi's vocal improvisations, a hint of yodeling appears at times. It's circus-like, colorful and buoyant."

At a young age, Matthias Schriefl was invited by the famous saxophonist Charlie Mariano to represent him on a tour with the Karnataka College of Percussion. Inspired by South Indian music, he still travels to Bangalore time and again to study Indian music.

Years ago in Bangalore, this developed into a deep friendship, as well as Amithias, a band with two bandleaders: Amith Nadig and Matthias Schriefl. The musicians in this band come from South India and the Allgäu – a great mix for real world music!

Amith Nadig is a flute virtuoso who plays classical Indian music with the best musicians from the subcontinent. He not only deals intensively with his own rich culture, but also plays samba, blues and mambo pieces with Amithias, for example, and yodels in Indian style. All the musicians are constantly exploring the connections between jazz harmonies and Indian ragas, as well as the similarities between grooves from all over the world. The result is a fascinating interplay between the complex rhythms of South India and European harmonies. True friendships emerge here, far beyond the music itself. A virtuoso encounter that can only take place in the heavenly realms of the boundless, pure joy of music.
