Mit diesem Konzert setzen die Musiker ihre Zusammenarbeit fort. Garth Erasmus und Andreas O. Hirsch traten auf eine Initiative von Georg Dietzler / gerngesehen und gefördert von der Kunststiftung NRW zum ersten Mal im April/Mai 2026 gemeinsam beim Entanglements Festival in Johannesburg und Kapstadt auf.

With this concert, the musicians are continuing their collaboration. Garth Erasmus and Andreas O. Hirsch performed together for the first time in April/May 2026 at the Entanglements Festival in Johannesburg and Cape Town, as part of an initiative by Georg Dietzler/gerngesehen and with the support of the Kunststiftung NRW.

Garth Erasmus und Andreas O. Hirsch verbindet eine Begeisterung für das Konstruieren elektroakustischer Instrumente, Improvisation und eine experimentell-forschende Herangehensweise. Durch die Kombination ihres Instrumentariums entsteht eine eigenwillige, ungeschliffene Musik an der Grenze zwischen Natur und elektronischer Transformation. Garth Erasmus entwickelt und konstruiert seine Instrumente basierend auf dem indigenen Wissen der KhoiSan: Zentral dabei ist neben der traditionellen Windpyp, Mouth Bows und diversen Blasinstrumenten die Ghôrrah, ein einsaitiger Bogen, der gestrichen, geklöppelt und gezupft werden kann. Andreas O. Hirsch’s Elektrifiziertes Palmblatt beruht auf dem Prinzip der afrikanischen Kalimba und öffnet in Verbindung mit Effekten einen Raum zwischen experimenteller Elektronik und elektroakustischer Musik mit einem Hang zu Fluxus, archaischen Elementen und eskapistischen Ausflügen.

Garth Erasmus and Andreas O. Hirsch share a passion for designing electroacoustic instruments, improvisation, and an experimental, exploratory approach. The combination of their instruments gives rise to a unique, raw sound that straddles the line between nature and electronic transformation. Garth Erasmus develops and builds his instruments based on the indigenous knowledge of the KhoiSan: central to this, alongside the traditional windpyp, mouth bows, and various wind instruments, is the Ghôrrah, a single-stringed bow that can be bowed, tapped, and plucked. Andreas O. Hirsch’s electrified palm leaf is based on the principle of the African kalimba and, in combination with effects, opens up a space between experimental electronics and electroacoustic music with a penchant for Fluxus, archaic elements, and escapist excursions.
