Sofia Will’s VOLO | Album Listening Session: MOGUNTIA

Sofia Will präsentiert ihr neues Album MOGUNTIA und lädt zusammen mit ihrem Large Ensemble VOLO zu einer Album Listening Session im LOFT ein, wo das Album entstanden ist! Die Idee zu einer Listening Session kam daher, dass oft jahrelange Arbeit – Komponieren, Aufnehmen, Mischen und Pressen – in ein Album fließt, und diese Albumsperformance dann aber nie vor Publikum erklingt. Bei dieser Listening Session geht es also darum, zusammen in das Album, mit all seinen Geschichten und Musiker:innen einzutauchen, ein bisschen über die Musik zu reden und auf den Release anzustoßen. Die Band freut sich auf euch!

MOGUNTIA:
Vor langer Zeit wurde die deutsche Stadt Mainz Moguntia genannt, nach fast 500 Jahren als römische Siedlung namens Mogontiacum, was wiederum vom keltischen Gott Mogon abgeleitet wurde.
MOGUNTIA erzählt die Geschichte von Sofia Wills Zeit in Mainz, wo sie ihren Jazzsaxophon-Bachelor absolviert hat. Es erfasst fünf Jahre voller Emotionen, welche in diesem Album zu Musik umgewandelt wurden.
VOLO ist ein Large Ensemble von Sofia Will, Altsaxophonistin und Komponistin, welches die jungen Jazzszenen Köln, Mainz, Basel, Stuttgart und Berlin zusammenführt. Nachdem Sofia Will mit VOLO das LOFT recording project gewann, in dessen Rahmen die Aufnahmen für Moguntia enstanden, und anschließen den Jazzfest Bonn Förderpreis erhalten hat, kam sie zum renommierten Schweizer Label Unit Records, wo ihr VOLO-Debütalbum Moguntia Anfang Mai 2025 veröffentlicht wird.

Sofia Will presents her new album MOGUNTIA and, together with her large ensemble VOLO, invites you to an album listening session at LOFT, where the album was created! The idea for a listening session came from the fact that often years of work – composing, recording, mixing and pressing – go into an album, but this album performance is never heard in front of an audience. So this listening session is all about immersing yourself in the album, with all its stories and musicians, talking a bit about the music and raising a glass to the release.

MOGUNTIA:
A long time ago, the German city of Mainz was called Moguntia, after almost 500 years as a Roman settlement called Mogontiacum, which in turn was derived from the Celtic god Mogon.
MOGUNTIA tells the story of Sofia Will’s time in Mainz, where she completed her bachelor’s degree in jazz saxophone. It captures five years full of emotions, which have been transformed into music in this album.
VOLO is a large ensemble by Sofia Will, alto saxophonist and composer, which brings together the young jazz scenes of Cologne, Mainz, Basel, Stuttgart and Berlin. After winning the LOFT recording project with VOLO, during which the recordings for Moguntia were made, and subsequently receiving the Jazzfest Bonn sponsorship award, Sofia Will joined the renowned Swiss label Unit Records, where her VOLO debut album Moguntia will be released in early May 2025.
