In diesem Programm wird der US-amerikanische Multiinstrumentalist, Komponist & Autor Elliott Sharp Auszüge aus seinem neuesten Buch Feedback: Translations From The IrRational lesen, dazu spielt er solo elektroakustische Musik auf einem 8-saitigen Gitarrenbass sowie Elektronik.

Elliott Sharp leitet SysOrk, Orchestra Carbon, Terraplane und Tectonics und war ein Pionier in der Anwendung von fraktaler Geometrie, Chaostheorie und Genetik in der Musikkomposition und -interaktion.
Seine Oper Port Bou wurde im Oktober 2014 im Issue Project Room uraufgeführt, und seine Suite Tribute:MLK Berlin ’64 eröffnete das Berlin Jazz Festival 2014. Storm Of the Eye ist auf dem Grammy-prämierten Album In 27 Pieces der Geigerin Hilary Hahn zu hören, und Turing Test für die Neuen Vocalsolisten Stuttgart wurde 2012 bei der Biennale in Venedig uraufgeführt.
Sharp war bereits bei Festivals wie New Music Stockholm, Darmstadt, Donaueschingen und Au Printemps zu Gast und ist Gegenstand des Dokumentarfilms Doing The Don‘t.
Sharp wurde 2015 mit dem Berliner Musikpreis für Komposition ausgezeichnet, erhielt 2014 ein Guggenheim-Stipendium und 2014 ein Stipendium des Center for Transformative Media. Im Jahr 2003 erhielt er ein Stipendium der Foundation For Contemporary Art.

Feedback ist eine weitreichende Meditation über Musik, Klang, künstliche Intelligenz, Bewusstsein, zeitgenössische Kultur und Politik sowie das Leben eines tourenden Musikers. Der Autor Elliott Sharp gilt als eine der zentralen Figuren der Downtown-Szene von New York City und ist Komponist, Produzent, Multiinstrumentalist, bildender Künstler und Pädagoge. Ausgehend von seinem naturwissenschaftlichen Hintergrund entdeckte Sharp als Teenager seine Leidenschaft für Musik, die bis heute ungebrochen ist. Seine Philosophie ist nicht nur von Musik und deren Entstehung geprägt, sondern auch von seinem fortwährenden Studium der Physik und Genetik sowie seinem tiefen Interesse an unserer modernen Welt und ihren Freuden und Schrecken. In Feedback beschäftigt sich Sharp mit spekulativen Überlegungen darüber, wie Bewusstsein entstanden sein könnte und was die Zukunft für die Menschheit mit dem Aufkommen einer künstlichen Intelligenz bereithält, die zwar künstlich ist, aber vielleicht nicht unbedingt intelligent. Der „Improvisationsgeist“ wird im Kontext der Post-Quantenphysik, der Wahrscheinlichkeitstheorie, der Sozioakustik und des Butoh-Tanzes diskutiert. Sharp liebt es, in unvorhersehbare Bereiche abzuschweifen, verbindet aber alles zu einer übergreifenden Erzählung, die sowohl persönlich als auch konzeptionell ist.

Elliott Sharp gehört zu den bedeutendsten Musikern der Downtown-Szene von New York City. Seine Arbeit ist originell und konzeptionell stringent. Feedback is a wide-ranging meditation on music, sound, artificial intelligence, consciousness, contemporary culture and politics, and the life of the touring musician. Author Elliott Sharp is considered one of the central figures in NYC’s Downtown Scene and is a composer, producer, multi-instrumentalist, visual artist, and educator. Starting from a background in the sciences, Sharp found his passion for music as a teen, and it has never abated. His philosophy is informed not just by music and its creation but by continuing studies in physics and genetics and a visceral interest in our modern world and its joys and horrors. In Feedback, Sharp engages in speculative thought about how consciousness might have arisen and what the future holds for humanity with the advent of an Artificial Intelligence that is certainly artificial but might not exactly be intelligent. The „Improviser’s Mind“ is discussed in the context of post-quantum physics, probability, socio-acoustics, and Butoh dance. Sharp loves to digress into unpredictable areas but ties it all together in an overarching narrative that is both personal and conceptual.
